Crap.

Crap, crap, crap.

I come home from seeing "Sicko" (HIGHLY recommended, every American should be required to see this film, but alas, I can't post a little review at the moment). I go to the grocery store, I came back, put stuff away, and then go in to check email. While sitting at my desk in the office, I hear something weird. I dismiss it, but I hear it again.

I have no clue what it could be. I push away from my desk and try to locate the sound. It's coming from the closet. I go over there, keeping an ear out. It happens again. And that's when I figure it out.

It was the sound of drops of water hitting soggy carpet.

Crap.

I look up and try to find where it's coming from. There are wet spots in the ceiling. But... that's not where the water is coming from. I follow the next drop up, and it's coming from the closet door jam... the water is IN the walls, and seeping out a crack in the door jam. That's when I notice the door jam is all swollen and cracked, in addition to the carpet being warped from the dampness.

CRAP!

I run up to the attic, enter the sweltering heat through the access in the garage, and make my way along it to where the water heater is. I assumed the water heater had sprung a leak, but it was dry. So I keep going and... voila. The pan under the AC unit was full of water, and one side of it buckled and creased, and the water was dripping down. It probably had been for a while. I bent it back, and found where the water was SUPPOSED to drain, and tried to adjust the pan so that the water flowed towards the drain pipe, instead of away from it.

Sigh. That seemed to stop it.

I run back down stairs and put plastic bowls under the dripping spots and wait for all the water to finish percolating through. Once I was certain it was slowing down and stopping, I got on the phone to my Insurance company.

At the very least, the drywall, the door frame, some of the wood, and the carpet is going to have to be replaced. Never mind replacing the pan under the air conditioning unit. I sure hope insurance covers it, because I don't have any money left after the bathroom remodel (which still isn't done).

Sigh.

Crap.
