29th-Jan-2007 01:22 am - All I wanted was a Vanilla Milk Shake
OutInTexas Ennis
Okay, I know this story isn't going to reflect very well on me, but I have to share. I'm pretty sick at the moment, and at 3am (central) last night, I suffered a strong craving for a McDonald's vanilla shake that would not be denied. I LOVE their vanilla shakes. Not so much their other flavors, but they have the best vanilla shakes in the fast-food realm.

Recently McDonald's has made this big deal about their drive-throughs being open 24/7 now. So even though I'm sick, the fact that this craving wouldn't let up, and wouldn't let me sleep, I gave up and pulled on some clothes and drove to the nearest McDonald's. It was closed.

Great. So I went to the next nearest, which I was sure was open. And their shake machine was down. Well double-great. So I drove to another one that was nearby. Isn't it freaky how many McDonald's there can be within a five minute radius of your home? Scary.

Anyway, their shake machine was ALSO down. WHAT THE HELL?

So fine, I give up on that idea. I accept I'm not going to get a McDonald's Vanilla Shake. But I still have that craving, and I'm already out here, so I start thinking about what other options there are. There was a Jack in the Box near by and they have decent shakes, and they're open 24/7 too. So I drive there. Wait in line. I mean, the place was swarmed. I finally pull the car up to the speaker to order, and THEY don't have shakes either.

WHAT THE EVER LIVING HELL IS GOING ON?

The Universe is conspiring against me. I really, really don't need this. I just need a freakin' vanilla shake.

Well, there was one last option. Whataburger. I don't much care for their shakes, mind you. The flavors aren't good, and they are so damn thick you have to wait 20 minutes before you can suck them up in a straw. But they were open 24/7 and they actually had shakes for sale. So I got one.

It didn't hit the spot. It just... didn't. A McDonald's one would have. Even a Jack in the Box one would have. This one? Not so much. And besides, I had to eat the damn thing with a spoon. But it was enough to put me in a sugar coma so I could get back to sleep.

Why the hell was every fast food place out of vanilla shakes the ONE time I get an uncontrollable craving for them?? I was getting so pissed, and I spent an entire hour driving around trying to get one...

I don't even want to think about the Carbon Footprint of my little adventure.

I really, really hate cravings.
