Far be it from me to let too many weeks pass without bitching about my yard.

So this week I had to finally break out the mower. I also vac/mulched up three more bags of leaves, edged and trimmed, trimmed back some bushes, and basically got the front yard into some sort of shape. But it's clear that I'm really bad at this, and I really need to just sit down and find someone to do my yard work for me. Someone who knows what they're doing.

It's weird, but it seems strange to me that I can't just fine a "yard service" to take care of things. Everyone is so specialized. There are companies for greening up your lawn, treating it for insects and fertilizing and fixing 'bare patches' and things. But that's all they do. You can't throw a stone without hitting someone that will mow and edge and trim your lawn. But they don't do the other stuff, and they don't do any bush or tree trimming. You can find services that do tree and bush trimming, but they don't do general landscaping and planting.

Why isn't there just one place I can call, point to my yard, and say "I screwed it up... fix it!" Instead I'm going to be stuck trying to coordinate at least three different services. Sigh. THIS is why I keep putting it off.

But okay, enough of that. Saturday my friend and former office-mate back when I worked at Vignette, Gary, had his birthday party. His girlfriend Laurie organized a dinner and night out at the theater. Twelve of us had an early dinner at Hyde Park Grille... I LOVE that place, but I hadn't eaten there in years. I don't know why. Mental note: I will make a concerted effort to eat there more often.

Then it was off to see Mamma Mia! It was lots of fun, even if our seats were in the nose-bleed section. Afterward, everyone else went home, I guess, so I met other friends out at Oil Can Harry's (if I have to tell you it's a gay bar with that name, then I can't help you :-). And of course, I managed to meet and talk to about half the male cast! Including the one I was totally in lust with. And he was just as hot up close as he was from last row of the last balcony.

All in all, it was a pretty eventful day. And except for the yard work, it was really fun.
